International Experiential Rotations

China – Taipei

Taipei Medical University – Wan Fang Hospital Department of Pharmacy

Belize

Hillside Health Care International (HHCI) offers a 4-week international rotation for students of multiple disciplines. HHCI provides free medical care and community service and teaching to the people of southern Belize both in our main clinic in Eldridgeville (just outside of Punta Gorda), through home visits, and on daily mobile clinics in villages that have limited access to transportation and medical care. We provide primary care, physical therapy/rehab, home visits, and community outreach and education. Our teams are made up of medical, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, physical therapy, and pharmacy students from multiple countries as well as supervising licensed providers. In addition to clinical activities, students are expected to fully engage in the following learning activities: core lectures given by faculty, student-led lectures and case presentations, community health projects and teaching, and self-directed learning.

Summer Program in Traditional Chinese Medicine

The School of Pharmacy offered it’s first study abroad elective course in Traditional Chinese Medicine in the summer of 2008 at Peking University, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.  Students spend five-weeks at the beginning of the summer, in Beijing, China studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, which covers a range of medicinal practices that have developed over thousands of years, including herbal medicine, massage therapy and acupuncture.  Students are also required to take 28 hours of instruction in Mandarin.
