Blood Pressure Screenings
SNPhA members offer free blood pressure screenings to patients of CVS and Walgreens pharmacy. Members also inform patients on non-pharmacologic ways to help reduce and maintain their blood pressure.
Chronic Kidney Disease Awareness
Covenant Soup Kitchen
SNPhA members have the opportunity to volunteer at the soup kitchen in Willimantic serving breakfast, lunch or dinner.
SNPhA members attend an American Diabetes Association Step Out: Walk for Diabetes each fall semester.
Each year SNPhA members volunteer at the seasonal flu clinics held on campus. We hand out forms, monitor patients after the shot, and help answers questions with the nurses and nursing students.
High school students from New Haven visit the University of Connecticut. SNPhA members teach the students how to make “Vicks Vapor Rub” in the compounding lab, take them for a tour of the university and inform them about the opportunities that college has to offer.
HIV and AIDS Awareness
Pharmacy students offer applying pre-pharmacy students advice about the interview process. There is a mock panel of interviewers asking interview-type questions to the pre-pharmacy students to help prepare them for their pharmacy school interview. We also provide advice on “what to wear” and “what not to wear”.
Pharmacy in the News
At each meeting we discuss a current events topic about pharmacy.
We offer a practice session to sophomore pre-pharmacy students prior to the PCAT as preparation before the actual test.
Regional and National Conventions
SNPhA members have the opportunity to travel and meet members from other chapters, as well as network and participate in resolution proposals.
Unity Week occurs every year in the spring semester. It is a week-long event that promotes diversity within the School of Pharmacy. We have a different theme each year, and a pot luck with foods from different cultures, an art show, and several speakers and workshops related to the theme.
