The School of Pharmacy officially recognizes pharmacy student organizations that: are student chapters affiliated with a professional pharmacy-related organization; are pharmacy-related fraternities or sororities; are pharmacy-related honor or professional societies; are pharmacy-related research organizations; or meet a unique need of the students as approved by the Office of the Associate Dean.  Each pharmacy student organization is advised by a faculty member.

Alpha Zeta Omega Pharmaceutical Fraternity – Nu Chapter*

Alpha Zeta Omega is a pharmaceutical fraternity composed of pharmacists and pharmacy students.  The objectives of the organization are: to promote the profession of pharmacy; to develop high standards of scholarship; to inculcate a spirit of fellowship amongst its members; to bring together a body of men and women who, by the diligent maintenance of ethical ideals and faithful service, have proven a credit to their chosen profession; to honor achievement in others; to commend all worthy deeds; to build within the fraternity a triangle composed of three supporting sides which are peace, friendship, and brotherly love.

American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists [AAPS] UConn Student Chapter

The mission of UConn's American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Student Chapter is to increase student participation in the activities of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists at the local and national levels.  The organization works to: increase student awareness of career opportunities and the latest advances and discoveries in the pharmaceutical sciences; provide students with opportunities for professional advancement and leadership development; and foster participation in outreach activities that further the goals and objectives of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. Membership is open to all undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral fellows at the University of Connecticut.

American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Students of Pharmacy [APhA-ASP] UConn Chapter*

The American Pharmacists Association is the national professional society of pharmacists in the United States and is dedicated to improving public health by assisting its members and enhancing the profession of pharmacy.  The Academy of Students of Pharmacy is the national professional society of pharmacy students and is an affiliate of the American Pharmaceutical Association [APhA.]  Membership is open to all pharmacy and pre-pharmacy students.

American Society of Consultant Pharmacists [ASCP] Connecticut Student Chapter*

The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists is the international professional association that provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources to advance the practice of senior care pharmacy.

American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP)*

AAPP's mission is to advance the reach and practice of psychiatric pharmacy and serve as the voice of the specialty.

Dean’s Student Liaison Committee (DSLC)

The Dean's Student Liaison Committee keeps the dean and fellow pharmacy students aware of current events within the School of Pharmacy, developing solutions for unexpected or difficult events that may arise during the semester, working together to achieve common goals.

The committee is comprised of six students, two each from the P1, P2, and P3 years. The application process includes answering a few short questions about why a person is interested in joining the group and providing a resume to current committee members, who then vote on the candidates. Those whose applications are accepted during their first year have the option of staying on the committee for three years. Any vacant positions are filled on an ‘as needed’ basis.

Diversity Committee *

The School of Pharmacy's Diversity Committee  supports and advocates for all students regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, class, age, or other identifying characteristic. The committee aims to increase diversity within the School of Pharmacy, foster belonging and provide information about the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in health care practice.

The committee focuses on the needs of underrepresented groups within the School of Pharmacy and our community. Students of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Industry Pharmacists Organization [IPhO] University of Connecticut Student Chapter*

IPhO is an international, nonprofit organization that serves as the global forum for therapeutic innovation and regulatory science. The purpose of the UConn Student Chapter is to raise student awareness of career opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry and medical product development field. As part of this, members will be provided with the experience and tools necessary to expand their personal career development. Members will also be provided with opportunities to collaborate and network with other students and professionals to foster medical innovation and exchange information to help improve public health.

Journal Club*

The SoP Journal Club aims to help students understand journal articles by breaking down article components and working through application exercises. For interested students, we also provide opportunities for members to present articles/research in preparation for more traditional journal club settings and beyond. We are open to all learners regardless of program or year--our main focus is to increase article comprehension and create a learning-friendly environment for everyone!

Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity – Nu Chapter*

Kappa Psi is the world’s oldest and largest pharmacy fraternity in the nation. We aim to better the profession of pharmacy and develop leaders with a passion and desire to serve their communities, while creating lifelong personal and professional relationships. The values that this fraternity were built on are Industry, Sobriety, Fellowship, and High Ideals.

 

Lambda Kappa Sigma International Professional Pharmacy Fraternity [LKS] Alpha Beta Chapter*

The mission of Lambda Kappa Sigma is to promote the profession of pharmacy among women and advance women within the profession by developing its members as individuals and leaders through the support of fellow members while encouraging a high standard of professional ethics and scholarship.

National Community Pharmacists Association – Connecticut Student Chapter*

The National Community Pharmacists Association represents the pharmacist owners, managers, and employees of independent community pharmacies across the United States. The student chapter offers pharmacy students a wide array of opportunities to broaden and enrich their educational experience and gain valuable, real world skills.

Pharmacy Debate Club

The purpose of Pharmacy Debate Club is to encourage students in the pharmacy school to learn different perspectives on ethical and medical issues that affect communities worldwide. Students will also learn how to effectively present their arguments on these issues in a Lincoln Douglas debate format.

Pharmacy Student Government (PSG)*

The Pharmacy Student Government (PSG) is a student run “umbrella” organization that works to enhance communication between students, faculty, administration, University of Connecticut schools with health-related interests, and other schools of pharmacy.  Pharmacy Student Government lobbies for the interests of the students and organizes activities that are social, professional and/or philanthropic in nature.  Pharmacy Student Government is comprised of four representatives from each professional program class and up to two representatives appointed from each pharmacy student organization recognized by the Office of Associate Dean.  Representatives of the P2, P3 and P4 classes are elected in the first full week in April.  The P1 class representatives are elected during the third full week of classes in September.  The dean and associate dean serve as ex-officio members of the body.

Students for Accurate Vaccine Information (SAVI)*

Students for Accurate Vaccine Information (SAVI) is an organization of inter-professional health students with the aim of supporting the spread of factual, current, and accessible vaccine information through community outreach and education as well as advocating for public health measures and legislation that strengthen robust and equitable vaccine distribution practices. With the proliferation of vaccine misinformation and the increasing politicization of public health practices, there has never been a greater need to promote trust in science, healthcare, and evidence based vaccination practices. Through activities such as literature design and distribution, guest speakers, legislative advocacy, and public health campaigns, SAVI hopes to develop and strengthen community partnerships, expand our knowledge of vaccination best practices, and participate in the medical, ethical, and legal discourse surrounding vaccinations.

Student Chapter American College of Clinical Pharmacists (SCCP)*

SCCP is the student chapter of the national organization, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Our organization promotes excellence in patient care, research, and education through our community outreach programs such as flu clinics and healthcare-focused presentations in the community. We also provide information to students about careers and opportunities within the field of clinical pharmacy.

Student Educational Assistance (SEA) Program

The SEA program is led by highly motivated students and faculty who are interested in providing additional resources to enrich the learning experience for the school of pharmacy student body. Resources are easily accessible through the HuskyCT website under “Pharmacy Academic Resources” and can be viewed by any student or faculty member. SEA also offers review sessions and 1-on-1 tutoring based on student needs.

Student National Pharmacy Association [SNPhA] University of Connecticut Chapter*

The Student National Pharmacy Association is an educational service association of students who are concerned about pharmacy and health care related issues, and the poor minority representation in pharmacy and other health-related professions.  The organization plans, organizes, coordinates and executes programs geared toward improving the health, educational, and social environment of the community.

Topic Discussion Club*

Topic Discussion Club (TDC) provides students with the opportunity to participate in topic discussions, which are a key component of pharmacy student rotations. Topic discussions are led by students who prepare a selected topic that they present to a healthcare professional/preceptor who chimes in with clinical pearls.

Each topic discussion allows students to gain experience in a learner-friendly environment where they can strengthen clinical knowledge, learn about different specialties, and prepare for professional rotations.

Holistic Wellness Committee
This committee will encompass the other needs and interests of the student body, faculty, and
staff regarding wellness. It will touch upon any and/or all of the following: Financial Wellness, Spiritual Wellness,
Environmental Wellness, and Social and Occupational Wellness
