As a Carnegie Engaged University, the UConn is committed to serving the residents of the state of Connecticut. Our faculty directly impacts the community in numerous ways through our clinical practices and community outreach.

Major Highlights:
In 2010 the Provost established a University-wide competition called the Provost’s Award for Public Engagement which is awarded to only two faculty members each year. Two of our faculty have received this award (Thomas Buckley, RPh, MPH, Devra Dang, Pharm.D.) and one was a finalist (C. Michael White, Pharm.D.)
Thomas Buckley, RPh, MPH received the national ASHP Leadership Award for his work with Cambodian refugees here and abroad, and the UConn Faculty Development Abroad Grant for his global citizenship work.
Devra Dang, Pharm.D. is a founding and core faculty of the UConn Urban Service Track where students from several 6 health professions and 2 universities work collaboratively to tackle health disparities in urban areas. Each year, Urban Service Track students and faculty log over 2,500 hours per year providing health-related community outreach to approximately 4,000 of Connecticut's neediest residents.
Philip Hritcko, Pharm.D. helps to coordinate a major collaborative health initiative for migrant farm workers here in Connecticut.
C. Michael White, Pharm.D. has provided weekly pharmacist advice to people in across Connecticut through the Ask the Pharmacist segment for more than a decade. The segment currently airs on Fox61.
Kevin Chamberlin, Pharm.D., Jill Fitzgerald, Pharm.D., Jennifer Girotto, Pharm.D., Lisa Holle, Pharm.D., Michael Nailor, Pharm.D., and C. Michael White, Pharm.D. have provided interviews and content to numerous media stories over the years, making Pharmacy Practice one of the most quoted departments at UConn.
Sean Jeffery, Pharm.D. was a co-founder of the CT Coalition for Senior Medication Safety and is leading efforts to expand pharmacist services within Hartford Healthcare’s Integrated Care Partners, an accountable care organization.
Kevin Chamberlin, Pharm.D. was elected as vice chair for the State of Connecticut Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid) Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Committee.
Charles Caley, PharmD, BCPP is a member of the State of Connecticut Drug Utilization Review Board and is leading a project to develop a network of Connecticut community pharmacists that administer long-acting injectable antipsychotics.
Staff member Barbara Murawski led a team of volunteers to address unmet medical needs in Haiti. Craig Coleman, Pharm.D., Tom Buckley, RPh, MPH, and Jeannette Wick, RPh, MBA conducted medical assessments, provided basic care, and nurtured local orphans and villagers.
